Jackson Pollock’s 1946 “Red Composition,” only his 2nd test with the groundbreaking drip approach that would show to be a post-World War II watershed for artwork internationally, has been in the Everson's collection for almost 30 years.

The Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, N.Y., introduced the distinct day that it would be sending a significantly integral twentieth century painting to the auction block, it was once as soon as apparent that museum officers have been involved — and per chance higher than a little embarrassed — by way of the inexcusable go they had been about to make. 


Like naughty childhood hoping the grown-ups wouldn’t observe tiny fingers dipping into the cookie jar, they dropped the lovely press launch into the media black hole that is Labor Day weekend.

The $18 million public sale estimate nearly barring a doubt capability that the small painting will disappear from the public realm, vanishing into non-public hands.
