El gobierno está trabajando con la policía, los servicios de inteligencia y las empresas para buscar en "si sería justo dejar a las personas que se comuniquen a través de estos sitios web y servicios, cuando sabemos que están creando violencia, desorden y criminalidad", dijo Cameron hoy en el Parlamento. Asimismo el Primer Ministro mencionó a la empresa Research In Motion Ltd. (RIM) servicio de Mensajes para BlackBerry como una de las herramientas que fueron utilizadas por los alborotadores.
La policía ha dicho que están investigando el uso de los servicios de redes sociales, como los operados por Twitter Inc., Facebook Inc. y BlackBerry Messenger.
Tres personas fueron arrestadas por la policía de Southampton, Inglaterra, bajo sospecha de mal uso de los medios de comunicación social y mensajería para fomentar los disturbios.
