Frieze Contemporary Art Fair

Frieze Art Fair features over 170 of the most exciting contemporary art galleries in the world. The fair also includes specially commissioned artists’ projects, a prestigious talks programme and an artist-led education schedule.

The ninth edition for Frieze Art Fair, the leading international contemporary art fair, takes place in London’s Regent’s Park from 13–16 October 2011. The fair is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.

World’s leading contemporary art galleries

173 of the world’s most exciting contemporary art galleries, representing 33 countries, will present new work by over 1,000 of the world’s most innovative artists at Frieze Art Fair.

The dynamism of galleries from emerging territories such as Asia and South America is balanced by a strong European and American contingent. Additions to last year’s participants include Galerie Chantal Crousel (Paris), Konrad Fischer Galerie (Dusseldorf), Johnen Galerie (Berlin), Yvon Lambert (Paris), The Pace Gallery (New York), Andrea Rosen Gallery (New York) and Donald Young Gallery (Chicago).

Previous Frame exhibitors that are this year exhibiting in the main section of the fair are: Andreiana Mihail Gallery (Bucharest), Project 88 (Mumbai), Rodeo (Istanbul) and Micky Schubert (Berlin).

The Frame section of the fair is dedicated to galleries under six-years old, showing solo artist presentations. The selection of the 25 Frame galleries was advised by Cecilia Alemani and Rodrigo Moura. Frame is supported by COS.

The Art of Titian at Minneapolis Institute of Arts

Venus Rising from the Sea
"Catch this rare opportunity to see the cream of the Venetian paintings collection of the National Galleries of Scotland, here for the first time ever. Two ravishing pendants by Titian, Diana and Actaeon and Diana and Callisto, make this a must-see for painting lovers.

Acclaimed as the most poetic creations of the Italian Renaissance, these luminous sixteenth-century paintings are the two most significant works by Titian outside of Italy and Spain. Originally painted for King Philip II of Spain, they entered the Bridgewater/Sutherland collection at the end of the eighteenth century and have been on loan to the National Gallery since 1945.
The exhibition also includes Titian's famous Venus Rising From the Sea (formerly a Bridgewater picture) and masterpieces by Lorenzo Lotto, Jacopo Tintoretto, Jacopo Bassano, Paris Bordon, Giovanni Cariani, and Paolo Veronese. A companion exhibition, "Venice on Paper," will present a selection of stunning Venetian drawings by Venetian Renaissance masters."

Art galleries expect collectors

"That's what Art Basel Miami Beach organizers and galleries are expecting. They say recent auctions and art fairs have indicated that collectors are again acquiring high art and that they are not afraid to reach into their pockets and spend money this year during the fair, which opens Thursday.

"It was quite clear that the American collectors were back and participating," Bonnie Clearwater, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, said. "So, there seems to be a lot of optimism."

Dealers agree.

"I think they are buying again," said Steven Henry, director of the Paula Cooper Gallery in New York. "I wouldn't say the market has rebounded in full. ... I think what you are seeing is slightly more confidence in the economy."

Leer +
